Kimble's modest beginnings in a borrowed Chicago, IL, loft and Kontes' humble start in the top floor of a family-owned Vineland, NJ, candy shop revealed a pioneering spirit in both companies that is still alive today.

Known as the "Colonel" since the early 1920s when President Warren Harding presented him with the title, Colonel Evan Ewan Kimble has come to symbolize the driving force behind today's Kimble-Chase. He was a man who overcame obstacles in life to become America's glass visionary. It began in 1880 when twenty-year-old Evan Kimble founded Kimble Glass Company in Chicago, Illinois. His first products included homeopathic vials, thistle funnels, droppers and medicine tubes. Kimble relocated the company to Vineland, New Jersey, in 1911. At the end of the First World War, Kimble introduced its first volumetric laboratory glassware. Since that time, Kimble has been known as the market leader in the manufacture of volumetric ware.
